Arched Windows

Arched windows make a beautiful statement in your home. If you’re building a new home, consider an arched window in a prominent area of your home, so that it gets the most notice. You’ll probably be surprised to find that arched windows are not significantly more expensive than regular windows when building new construction.

If you are putting replacement windows in your home, you can replace existing windows with arched windows, but you may find that it adds significant cost. Replacement windows with arched glass often require enlarging the window opening, which add construction cost to the price of the new windows. However, if you’re updating the look of your older home, adding an arched window can really make a statement.

You may be concerned about how to dress an arched window. This can be a bit tricky, but there are some simple arched window treatment solutions. Consider hanging a curtain rod across the window below the arch, leaving the arched part of the window undressed. Since the arch is usually up fairly high, privacy isn’t typically an issue. This is a great look, and one of the least expensive arched window coverings, but you may find that the sun shines in the undressed arch, causing a problem.

If sun becomes a problem, there are many blinds that are custom made for arched windows. These typically come with regular blinds for the lower part of the window and a fan shaped shade or blind to fit into the arch. You can find these special blinds in everything from bamboo to cellular shades to roman or roller shades. Some of the arch shades are made to collapse to the bottom of the arch to let the light in when you desire.

For a dressier look, you can find fan shaped treatments made out of fabric. These fit right in the arch, as well, and can be constructed from the same fabric as your drapes hung on the lower part of the window. You’ll find that you often have to have this sort of treatment custom made.

Finally, a very popular and high end look in arched window treatments is the wooden fan to fit your arch. These fans are paired with plantation shutters or higher end wood blinds. The wooden arch shaped blind fits right in the arch and can be opened and closed just like regular blinds to block the sun or let it come in.

Arched windows indeed make a dramatic statement in a room. If you have an arched window in your home, be sure to dress it to make the most of its beautiful design.
