Bay Windows

No window is more beautiful, or gives more of a feeling of bringing the outdoors in than a bay window. And, if you choose to add your bay window to the front of your home, the beauty will be enjoyed from the curb as well.

Bay windows are wonderful ways to create a cozy seating nook in addition to being a beautiful focal point for the room. Consider a bay window in your breakfast nook, for example. A round table fits nicely into the curve created by the window and gives the feeling of dining outdoors all year long.

Or, consider building a window seat into your bay window in any room of your home. Covered with a cushion and lots of pillows, you’ll create a cozy spot for reading and relaxing. Make your window seat a storage bench and you have a great spot for storing linens or other items. You’ll likely find that the window seat becomes the favored seat in the house. Or, if you don’t want to use the built in for the bay window as a seat, it makes a great display area or plant shelf.

Before building, you should spend some time considering bay window treatments. There are dozens of ways to dress your bay windows, depending upon the look of your room and how you plan to use the space. For example, if you are putting a bay window in your breakfast nook or making a window seat in the space, long panel curtains are impractical. Consider blinds or shades if you need privacy, with pretty valances up top to dress the window up.

Since most bay windows are created from three or four windows placed together, you can typically dress each window in the bay individually, making window treatments for bay windows fairly simple to find.

Café curtains are also popular bay window treatments. Because the bottom portion of the curtain is short, it doesn’t interfere with a table or window seat placed in the window. The bottom of the café curtains opens easily to let in light, but close to provide privacy. The valance that goes up top draws the eye upward and provides a sense of balance to with window.

Bay windows are one of the most beautiful window types you can add to your home. These windows have a classic and elegant look that gives a home timeless appeal.
