When holidays come, don’t forget to decorate your windows! Holiday windows are easy to create and make your holidays just a bit more festive. There are several ways to create holiday windows. Here are some ideas to get you started.
One of the simplest ways to embellish your windows for the holidays is with holiday window clings. Window clings are simply plastic decorative films that stick to the glass on your windows. They resemble stained glass, and are easily removable.
You can find holiday window clings for every holiday. You can choose hearts for Valentine’s Day, shamrocks for St. Patrick’s Day and bunnies for Easter. There are patriotic window clings for July 4th, ghosts and pumpkins for Halloween, turkeys for Thanksgiving and a whole host of choices for Christmas. Holiday window clings are a great way to decorate your windows because they’re simple to use and inexpensive.
Another way to accomplish holiday decorating with your windows is to create a holiday scene in your bay window. If you have a window seat or shelf in your bay area, you can create all sorts of window displays. Consider a tall spring flower arrangement at Easter and a small Christmas tree on the shelf during Christmas. Or, create a Christmas village scene in your bay window seat, complete with snow lined streets and village buildings.
If your bay window doesn’t have a seat, it’s still a great place for a holiday window display. Your Christmas tree would look great centered in the bay, or place a table in the bay for smaller displays. A menorah looks beautiful in a bay window, and there’s no other decoration needed to go along with it.
Finally, consider painting your holiday windows. Most craft stores sell easy to use paint especially for windows. It comes in every color imaginable and is easy to remove when the holiday is over. If you’re not comfortable painting your windows free hand, there are dozens of stencils you can use to create your holiday window masterpiece. Buy a full set of paints and a set of holiday stencils so that you’re ready for every occasion! They’re also great for creating a special greeting, such as painting “Happy Birthday” on the windows to announce a family birthday.
There are dozens of ways to use your windows to make a holiday display or statement. All it takes are some simple tools and a little imagination. And, if you have children, they’ll simply love helping you decorate the windows for every season and holiday of the year.
