Wooden Blinds

For privacy and elegance on your windows, you simply can’t find a better choice than wooden blinds. They make your home look beautiful from both the inside and out, go with any décor and with care, will last for years.

Wooden blinds have been around for hundreds of years. In fact, they were used extensively by the colonists as early as the 1700s. Wooden blinds fell out of favor for a few years, mostly replaced by aluminum or vinyl blinds, but today they are widely used again in many homes for their classic styling.

When choosing wooden blinds, you have many options. Today, wooden blinds with wide slats are very popular, but you can also find those with narrow slats, a sort of wooden mini blind. There are lots of color options, too, from natural wood, to stained or painted finishes. It’s a good idea to coordinate the color of your wood blinds with the other furnishings in your room, and with the trim on your windows. Look for blinds with dust repellent paint to help minimize the cleaning required.

For many years, wooden and other types of blinds were cumbersome to raise and lower. Today, however, blinds are very simple to open, close, raise and lower. They’re available with wands and cords on even the most cost effective models.

If you have children, you know that the cords from blinds or other window treatments can be a choking hazard, but there’s a solution for that in today’s blinds, too. You can find child proof, no cord blinds, too. These raise by simply pushing the blinds up from the bottom and lower by pulling down on the bottom slat. In addition, there are remote control blinds that open and close with the touch of a button.

If cost is an issue, you can also find faux wooden blinds that look nearly exactly like the real thing. These blinds are typically made from vinyl, which means that in addition to being less expensive than true wooden blinds, they’re also very low maintenance.

It pays to shop around for your blinds whether you’re choosing real wood or faux wood. Prices can vary greatly by manufacturer and dealer. If your windows are standard sizes, you can save a bit of money because you’ll be able to buy blinds in stock. However, if you have odd sized windows, you may require custom made wooden blinds, which can get expensive.

Wooden blinds add class to any window. They work well with any decorating style and require very little maintenance. All in all they’re a great choice for any home.
