Curtains

Simple cotton curtains are a popular choice for casual homes, particularly in kitchens and eating areas. You’ll find many choices available in curtains, and many price ranges as well.

If you’re on a budget, choose your curtains from ready made options. You can find many patterns and colors to fit your décor. One popular choice for kitchen window curtains is café curtains. Café curtains consist of a curtain panel that is hung at the center point of the window, covering the bottom half of the window combined with a valance that tops the window. These curtains offer a casual and fun look and provide privacy, as well.

Another very popular choice in curtains is lace panels. White and off-white lace curtains have been popular in home for many years. Lace curtains can be used inside the window casings with other panels hung on the outside, so that the lace panels provide privacy. Or, alternatively, lace curtains can be used alone.

For a country feel, try ruffled curtains. Ruffled curtains have a distinctive appeal that immediately says “country” and works well with country furniture, such as rustic pine antiques.

For more formal rooms, consider long curtains made of silk, chintz or brocade. These fabrics immediately bring a formal and classic appeal to a formal room, like a living room or formal dining room.

Another popular fabric choice for curtains is linen. Linen has a crisp look and feel to it that is perfect for airy, open rooms. Linen is a wonderful choice for rooms furnished in wicker or rooms with a beach or other outdoor theme. Linen is a very natural fabric, and this naturalness is reflected in its look and feel.

Another way to save money on your window treatments is to sew your own curtains. Making your own curtains allows you ultimate freedom over the choice of fabric, and lets you create a custom look for your home. Most curtains are fairly simple to sew, and there are dozens of patterns in every style to guide you along. If you’re not a seamstress, but want a custom look, consider have your curtains custom made. It’s usually not difficult to find a seamstress who’ll sew your curtains for you, letting you use fabric that matches or coordinates with other fabrics in the room.

Curtains are a decorating staple. Nearly every home has at least one pair of curtains hanging somewhere. However, with so many styles and colors to choose from it’s hard to find two homes with the same pattern!
