Window Brackets

When it comes to dressing your windows, the last thing most of us think of is our window brackets. But, you should give some thought to your window brackets because they can often do more for you than just hold up your curtain rods.

Today’s window brackets can provide decoration and function in addition to their usual task. For example, consider an iron window shelf bracket for a special window. This window bracket comes with a shelf on top to hold accessories. These are great for rooms with very high ceilings where you’d like to draw the eye up above the top of your window treatments. They’re also great window brackets for the collector. They allow you to display your collections for all to see, but keep them high up where they don’t take up other space and where they’re unlikely to get broken.

Even if you don’t expect your window brackets to do double duty, be sure you buy the right window brackets for your particular window and window treatment. For example, if you’re hanging window blinds, you need special window blind mounting brackets to ensure that your blinds hang properly. In most cases, if you buy your blinds off the shelf, appropriate window brackets will be included, but it’s always best to check. Similarly, if you are hanging curtains in a bay window, make sure that your window brackets will fit the window appropriately.

Choosing the right window brackets is particularly important if your window treatments are particularly heavy, such as you might find with brocade or velvet drapes. Window brackets that are not sturdy enough or not mounted properly may not be able to hold the weight of your drapes.

Window brackets and brackets of other kinds are far more important than we often give them credit for. Inappropriate, worn or flimsy brackets can cause problems when hanging window treatments and can cause problems later down the road too.

In addition, you want to ensure that your window brackets match appropriately. Once your window treatments are hung, your brackets should either be covered, or blend in with the curtain rods. In general, window brackets are not designed to stand out.

Choose your window brackets carefully. They can ensure that your window treatments hang properly and stay in place. However, with specialty brackets, you can also accomplish far more than simply hanging curtains. Be certain that your window brackets are chosen for your window, your window treatment and any additional function they need to serve.
