Window Jabots

One popular style of window treatment for formal rooms is the jabot style. Most people have seen jabots, but may not recognize the name. Jabots are great window treatments for more formal rooms. Here’s an example of a jabot set that works well for many room styles.

Jabots are wonderful because they’re a nice combination of a window topper and a panel. They allow lots of light in the room while still giving the windows an incredibly dressed appearance. Jabot work well in any décor provided they’re made from an appropriate fabric.

The jabot in our example above is made from a solid fabric, but there are many choices available in both patterns and solids.

Jabots are fairly easy to find ready made, or can be custom made. In addition, they’re not nearly as difficult to make as they might appear. You can find dozens of patterns available. By making your jabots yourself, you can save money and create exactly the look you want for your room.

Jabots are typically made from more than one piece, consisting of a center panel, which is sometimes a topper or valance, as in the picture above. Other times, the center panel is made from a swag. Then, two side pieces are placed on either side of the swag or valance. Because the complete treatments are made from separate pieces, you’re free to use two fabrics if you desire. You can buy your center piece in one fabric with the sides in a coordinating fabric or vice versa.

Ready made jabots are typically very inexpensive. They can be found at home décor stores, department stores, discount stores and even some home improvement stores. Because they’re so inexpensive, yet have such a formal and custom look, they’re a great choice for the homeowner who wants to create a formal room on a budget. In addition, since they’re less expensive than many other types of ready made window treatments, you can afford to have a couple of sets for the same room, allowing you to make changes according to season, if you desire.

If you choose to have your jabot sets custom made, however, they’ll be significantly more expensive. However, with custom made jabots, you can create exactly the look you desire, ensuring that your room has a completely coordinated look.
